Laurel Springs, N.J.
It was a good time saying good-bye.
Dom opened what turned out to be a four-and-a-half-hour Farewell Concert on the final Saturday night of Connie's Cafe.
Connie's Cafe announced in late July that it would be closing in August due to lease issues at the shopping center in which it's located. Sunday the 6th would be the last day of coffeeshop business, making Aug. 5 the last night of music. Dom performed from 7 to 9 p.m., with a half-hour break in the middle for the music of Paul Sehnen, who was the first of many guest musicians who rearranged their calendars to join in the festivities.
Other performers from Connie's Cafe's short-but-distinguished musical history who took the stage throughout the night:
--Steven Paul (who also sat in with Dom for two songs)
--Shannon Cole and Joe Caliva
In a way, this show was "full-circle" for Dom, who performed the first-ever featured show at Connie's when the venue began its Saturday music series last year. Dom had been booked for the Aug. 5 date a few months before anyone knew the coffeeshop would be closing the following day.
That's how the cards were dealt ... Dom was glad to be there for the last hand of the deck (and it was a full house, too!)
Heh. Bad joke. Sorry.
Thanks to Connie for opening her business to live music, thanks to Kris Noyes for scheduling all the performers, thanks to Paul Sehnen and Steven Paul for enhancing a few of Dom's songs with their lead guitar abilities, thanks to everyone who attended to say "farewell."
