Fuel House Coffee
A guy walks down the block to a bar, but gets distracted before he reaches the bar. On his way, he hears music coming from an outdoor speaker mounted near the entrance to Fuel House Coffee / Bain's Deli. He hears a musician playing "Like a Rollin' Stone," so he delays his trip to the bar long enough to locate the source of the music, sing along enthusiastically with the song's final chorus and toss a couple of five-dollar bills toward the stage. The guy leaves before the next tune and proceeds successfully to the bar.
Nope, not a bar joke. Actually happened on the final Saturday of 2007 during Dom's opening set. In case anyone was wondering, the outdoor speaker apparently works very well.
Dom's return trip -- after October's successful debut at this venue -- was a co-bill with Linsey Snyder, a piano-playing songstress. This evening was a reunion of sorts, because Dom and Linsey shared a show a little more than three years earlier but hadn't played together since. Dom led off the alternating-set format and joined Linsey on stage after her second of two sets for a somewhat spontaneous jam-session encore.
A young couple had brought their infant son to the show, so Dom inserted "Gettin' So Big" during the first set. This was also the show debut for Dom's original tune "Thankful," which alludes to the Thanksgiving holiday; yeah, it's about a month late, but who's counting?
