| June 20, 2008 Home Grown Cafe Newark, Del. What happens to a college town when the college is on summer break? To Dom's pleasant surprise, Newark, Del., does just fine! Dom had done two supporting appearances and one all-night solo show previously at this fashionable, all-ages restaurant and bar on the border of the University of Delaware. But all of those occurred with a heavy college-student contingent filling the venue. For this third Friday of June -- which was also the first official day of summer -- the local restaurants turned out in waves and kept the bar busy until closing time. This speaks well of the reputation Home Grown Cafe has earned in the city. After two songs of the second set, Dom announced he would next play a song about a place in South Jersey, written by a guy from North Jersey. This prompted a lady in the audience to yell out, "Where?" Turns out, she grew up in Freehold, same as the song's author. Score one for coincidence.
