Local brewery marks 15 years JULY 27, 2010 -- Dom helped Stewart's Brewing Co. celebrate its 15th Anniversary at a special Tuesday-night party. The band Chapel Street Junction was slated to provide music for the four-hour event at this landmark restaurant and microbrew in Bear, Del. They invited Dom to be the supporting act and play during their intermissions. The turnout was heavy for a weeknight, and with Dom filling the band's gaps, the music went straight through until midnight. It was also another anniversary of sorts. Three years ago this month, Dom met Scott, Dave, Ron and Paul of Chapel Street Junction at a rally for military families in Dover, Del. They later worked together a few times at Home Grown Cafe in Newark, Del., and it was the kindness of Chapel Street Junction that helped get Dom his own bookings there. Since 2007, the band added a fifth member, Mark, and also had a fiddler named Mike helping to celebrate at Stewart's. Thanks -- again -- to the kind fellas in Chapel Street Junction, and congratulations on 15 years to all the folks at Stewart's! Dom plays at John Eddie's Birthday Bash JULY 11, 2010 -- An unexpected Saturday night phone call led to a Sunday afternoon trip to New Hope, Pa., for an unusual birthday party. Rocker John Eddie marked his birthday with an all-ages concert at a regular touring stop, Havana Restaurant and Bar. When one of the acts canceled abruptly, the promoters had to find a substitute less than 24 hours before the midday show. A lucky break and a "friend of a friend" connection led to Dom filling the gap between songstress Camille Peruto and John Eddie's band. Fans of 1980's pop-rock might remember John Eddie from his MTV hit video "Jungle Boy." But he's spent the years since then in the americana format, touring the country regularly (especially the northeast) with loads of original music to fit his contemporary sound. Kid Rock and Sammy Hagar have released some of John's post-1980s work, and John has stayed in radio rotation himself with his most recent full-length album Who the Hell Is John Eddie? John's annual birthday bash was a stone's throw across the river from New Jersey, where John lived when he earned his national recording contract in the 1980s. Many of his longtime fans in this area -- known affectionately as "the faithful" -- turn out when John rolls into town. And at an event like this Sunday's show, some of "the faithful" can bring their kids for a primer in live rock-'n'-roll. Special thanks to John and his management for the opportunity to join them on the bill, and to Kris Noyes for brokering the deal. |
